Dispersion is the way your PA’s sound is projected horizontally and vertically - away from the speaker. Is it important? Yes! Understanding the dispersion of your PA helps to determine the placement of your speakers within your venue. Proper audio design will have the sound directed away from boundaries like walls and ceilings, and give coverage to your entire audience or event space. There are different ways to design a system. Ground stacking, speaker stands, scaffolding and trussing will extend your coverage in terms of height. The sound will travel further (to the nosebleed section) the higher the speaker, but placing the speaker too high will take away impact for the die-hards in your front row. And having your speakers sitting not high enough might blow your front row away completely.
